Mine is the Night

Mine Is the Night by Liz Curtis Higgs was an amazing read! I enjoyed it from the beginning to the end. As a busy mom, I was constantly trying to figure out ways to work my time so I could get back to read my book. This retelling of the story of Ruth was set in Scotland. Elisabeth and Marjory Kerr moved back to Marjory’s homeland ashamed and penniless. The story had twists and turns that kept me fascinated from start to finish. Even though it was patterned after the story of Ruth, it still kept me interested and the plot was not spoiled by that at all. It is definitely a must read in my book, and I know I will read it again and pass it on to my friends.

The Bridge of Peace

The Bridge of Peace by Cindy Woodsmall was definitely an awesome read. The ups and downs of Lena’s life kept my attention throughout the whole book. I enjoyed meeting Lena and her friends. Cindy Woodsmall wove a picture of life – real life. No one’s life was perfect; everyone experience hardship and joy. This book kept my attention, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My only regret about the entire book was that I had not read the first book in the series. This book definitely builds on the first book, and I was a little lost in many places and wished I had read the first one. I will recommend it to my friends and family. I am anxious to read the rest of the series.

God Gave US the World

God Gave Us the World by Lisa Tawn Bergren was excitedly enjoyed by everyone when it arrived at our house. It is a cute book about a bear family who learn about bears from around the world. I really enjoyed reading this book to our almost 3 year old. There were so many well-written lessons about the creation of our world. The story was interesting and had a good lesson to it. God Gave Us the World was just right for my son. He enjoyed listening to the story and wanted to hear it again. The illustrations were very nicely done also. We all enjoyed looking at the pictures while reading the story. I would recommend this book to friends and family, and I am going to be looking for the other books in this series. Thank you to WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for providing me with this free complimentary copy.

Two Tickets to the Christmas Ball

Two Tickets to the Christmas Ball by Donita K. Paul was a good read. I enjoy reading books with a Christmassy theme this time of year. Cora Crowder found herself invited to a Wizards’ Christmas ball. Very little information could be found about this ball. Her co-worker Simon also was mysteriously invited to this puzzling event. Things were working out in a very strange manner that always seemed to put them together.

The basic story line was enjoyable but there several additions that I just didn’t find appealing. Cora’s family is a family that does not understand her new found faith, but the interaction between Cora and her sister was a little too much for this lighthearted book. While Cora’s family situation was not a good, Simon’s was the exact opposite. Perhaps a little too perfect.

I am not a person who enjoys reading about wizards and magic so that was unexpected and a little disappointing to me. It didn’t seem to fit well in a Christian novel.

The story line was fairly interesting. I wanted to know how it ended; it kept my attention. I felt as the ending left something to be desired. I still had questions about some things when I finish reading the book.

Overall, I enjoyed reading the book. I don’t know that I will want to read it again…maybe at Christmas some year. I probably will not recommend a friend read it.
